Vite et bien 2 is a programming language that targets the web. The idea was motivated by a need to make a faster and easier-to-use version of Vite. 1. Vite et bien is an educational programming language for the Web, designed with simplicity and ease of use in mind. It’s not just fun to use, it makes learning web development practical with real world applications. We wanted to put the creativity into coding that young people have when they learn how to draw or paint or sculpt, without all the hassles of making a mistake on paper with paint! 2. Vite et bien has evolved from Vite (building web applications), but now includes things like how to make an online photo album, or a simple chat application. The object of our game is to build a web page that users can interact with; how much interaction depends on the student. The focus is on getting students quickly to the point where they can build things that are useful and interesting, like their own online address book, photo album, game or chat application. 3. Teachers are encouraged to put Vite et bien 2 into their classrooms because students will have fun building interesting applications. The instructors can design interesting and valuable activities for their students. We hope that the small amount of manual effort required to get a good assignment really makes a difference for students. 4. Vite et bien 2 is not like many programming languages in that it allows you to make things up as you go along, and when you’re done, it will take your code and produce a web page or other output. This gives students an opportunity to build something real and valuable (a Facebook application, for example) without having to know how to write in HTML or any other web language! Vite et bien makes doing things on the Web much easier without sacrificing control over what your program does; we call this 'teleportation'. 5. Vite et bien 2 is an open source language, available under the GPL version 2. Vite et bien is available for free download from this site, or from GitHub, or via git checkout. 6. The latest version of Vite et bien 2 has only been released for Windows at this time. Vite et bien is not supported on any other operating system at this time, but it should work on Linux if you have a web server installed with PHP support for things like MySQL. A Windows install of PHP also makes it easy to install Apache on Windows if the student wants to use WordPress as their CMS. 7. Vite et bien 2 is currently in a beta release and not fully tested and supported. You may find occasional bugs, and we don't guarantee it works on your machine when you run the latest version. This is because Vite et bien 2 is still evolving; it's beta for a reason! 8. We welcome feedback from anyone who uses Vite et bien 2 or would like to suggest new languages for inclusion in this series. 9. If you want to help us make Vite et bien 2 better, we need volunteers with time, skill and imagination; we can also use organizations to help provide us with developers and other resources (or organize them!). eccc085e13
